Initial Consultation (includes treatment)

At your first appointment with Vicky you will talk about your medical history and get a good picture of your health and lifestyle. All treatments are strictly confidential and Vicky strives to create a safe and non judgemental space for all.

In addition, a number of different TCM diagnostic methods will be used and these include feeling your pulses and looking at your tongue (not everyone wants to stick out their tongue - so don't worry if you don't want to). Vicky will explain how acupuncture works and what to expect and will answer any questions you might have.

The majority of patients will need a series of treatment such as once a week for 6-8 weeks until their symptoms resolve. However some patients like to use acupuncture monthly for general "maintenance". Everybody is unique in the timeframe of how they respond to acupuncture - but the benefits of the treatment are cumulative.

Very fine needles* are then gently inserted into specifically selected acupuncture points on the body to regulate the flow of ‘qi’, your body’s vital energy. The needles are retained for anywhere between 15 and 40 minutes - the length of time of depends on the age and comfort of the patient. Acupuncture generally does not hurt and most patients say that during and after treatments they feel very calm and peaceful.

In addition to Acupuncture, treatments may also incorporate other Traditional Chinese Medicine modalities such as Cupping therapy.

*The single-use sterile needles that Vicky uses come in sealed packs and are safely disposed of after each treatment.
